Arsenal Falls 3-0 to Brighton, Marking First Defeat as Champions

Brighton delivered a decisive 3-0 victory over Arsenal, disrupting the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations and halting the reigning champions’ flawless start to the Premier League season. This outcome marked Arsenal’s first defeat following a string of seven consecutive wins across all competitions.

The match, held at Brighton, showcased the home team’s high-intensity pressing and sharp finishing, which exposed vulnerabilities in Arsenal’s defense. Pascal Gross initiated the scoring after sustained pressure in the Arsenal penalty area, slotting the ball into the net following a pass from Charalampos Kostoulas.

As the first half neared its conclusion, Kostoulas extended Brighton’s lead with a powerful shot from outside the box. The 19-year-old forward was a persistent threat to Arsenal, using his movement and pressing to unsettle the visitors’ defense.

Continuing their dominance after the break, Brighton sealed their triumph with a third goal 12 minutes into the second half. Chema Andrés directed a header into the net from a precise Gross corner, further solidifying Brighton’s control over the match.

Arsenal, struggling to generate consistent scoring opportunities, conceded three goals in a single match for the first time since December 2023. Brighton’s counterattacks frequently posed additional risks, highlighting their tactical superiority on the day.

The result propelled Brighton to third place in the Premier League standings, now sitting just two points behind Arsenal. The defeat leaves Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with an opportunity to reassess tactics during the upcoming international break before resuming domestic competition.
