India is actively seeking a more influential role in diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The minister emphasized India’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and diplomacy, moving beyond its previous stance of advocating negotiations to direct engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv.
Jaishankar highlighted that India is exploring ways to contribute to initiatives that ensure the safety of shipping in the Black Sea and support the continued export of grain and energy. These efforts include discussions on potential mechanisms to avert future attacks in the region.
Direct talks have already taken place between Jaishankar and Ukrainian representatives, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscored by their meeting in New Delhi in September.
The developments occur amidst ongoing international attempts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with Kyiv also considering the possibility of another round of peace talks. India’s increased involvement comes as the global community continues to search for a resolution to the conflict that has had significant geopolitical and economic repercussions.
