A recent report from the Veritas Et Ius Association has brought to light substantial payments made to members of three codification commissions under Poland’s Ministry of Justice. From 2024 through June 2026, these commissions distributed nearly PLN 4.8 million to their members, the report reveals.
Among those receiving significant remuneration was Krystian Markiewicz, who earned PLN 240,000 during this timeframe. Despite his removal as chairman of the Codification Commission on the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service, Markiewicz remains a member of the commission.
The report highlights that the judiciary commission alone has cost taxpayers more than PLN 1.54 million. This expenditure came as the commission convened for 36 meetings. However, the report does not provide specifics regarding the attendance or individual participation of its members.
These revelations raise questions about the financial operations and transparency of the commissions within the Ministry of Justice. The absence of detailed participation records leaves a gap in understanding the value and productivity of the meetings that have incurred such significant costs to the public.
