Trump Urges Zelenskyy for Energy Ceasefire at UN Gathering

As tensions persist between Ukraine and Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump is anticipated to press Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to consent to a ceasefire focusing on energy infrastructure during their upcoming meeting in New York. The discussion is set to occur on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The anticipated dialogue comes in the wake of Ukraine ramping up its attacks on Russia’s energy sector. Over the weekend, Ukrainian forces executed a significant strike targeting the Moscow region, reportedly hitting a large oil refinery and resulting in three fatalities. These actions have prompted Trump to assert that such attacks are exacerbating global energy shortages, urging an end to the ongoing conflict to stabilize energy supplies worldwide.

President Zelenskyy, acknowledging the ongoing negotiations, indicated that proposals are being evaluated to ease the current tensions. He stressed that Russia should cease targeting Ukraine’s energy facilities, critical infrastructure, and food exports, signaling Kyiv’s willingness to reciprocate with de-escalation measures if these conditions are met.

Previously, Trump has cautioned Zelenskyy against targeting Russian diesel and fuel infrastructure, emphasizing their contribution to energy shortages. This issue was also a focal point of a phone conversation between the two leaders on Sunday, where they deliberated on potential resolutions.

Earlier, Trump announced that an energy ceasefire had been agreed upon between Russia and Ukraine, though no formal agreement has been finalized. Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and other critical infrastructure have continued unabated.

President Trump is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly, where he is expected to engage in multiple discussions centered on the global energy crisis and efforts to resolve ongoing international conflicts.
