Warsaw’s Mayor Under Scrutiny Following Resignations of Deputy Mayors

Amid rising political tensions, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski is under scrutiny following the resignations of Deputy Mayors Renata Kaznowska and Aldona Machnowska-Góra. These resignations come on the heels of allegations concerning irregularities at South Warsaw Hospital, sparking significant controversy within the city’s administration.

The situation escalated further with reports alleging that a whistleblower, who brought to light misconduct within Warsaw’s Municipal Roads Authority, was subsequently dismissed from his position. The whistleblower reportedly lacked support from city officials, adding fuel to the ongoing dispute about the city’s governance practices.

Mariusz Błaszczak, the parliamentary leader of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, has been vocal in his criticism of Mayor Trzaskowski. Błaszczak argues that the mayor must bear ultimate responsibility for the issues plaguing the administration. He questioned Trzaskowski’s leadership, pointing out that if deputy mayors are resigning over these issues, then the chief executive should also be held accountable.

Błaszczak’s calls for Trzaskowski’s resignation are rooted in accusations of mismanagement of the Polish capital. He believes that the mayor should answer for the administration’s handling of the recent controversies, suggesting that the responsibility does not end with the deputies but extends to the highest levels of city leadership.
