Polish President Karol Nawrocki has emphasized the importance of establishing a permanent U.S. military presence in Poland during talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Nawrocki underscored that this issue is a cornerstone of ongoing discussions aimed at bolstering security cooperation between the two nations.
Nawrocki highlighted that, in addition to a potential military base, discussions with Trump frequently cover U.S. defense equipment deliveries and Poland’s ambitions to secure a permanent spot within the G20. The Polish leader is working to enhance military and economic ties with the United States, noting that American defense companies are involved in negotiations to expedite potential contracts and investment projects in Poland.
Support from President Trump for a strengthened, long-term U.S. military presence in Poland has been noted, with Nawrocki urging further dialogue between Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The goal, according to Nawrocki, is to deepen Poland’s security partnership with the United States and reinforce its position within NATO.
In his address to the UN General Assembly, Nawrocki plans to focus on Poland’s security concerns, various regional and global crises, demographic challenges, and the persecution of Christians. Furthermore, he expressed Poland’s determination to achieve permanent membership in the G20, noting efforts to garner support from other governments, including discussions with the African Union.
