Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has extended an invitation for direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting the talks take place in a neutral third country. This proposal aims to advance efforts to resolve the ongoing war between the two nations. Zelenskyy, in a public letter to Putin, mentioned potential locations such as Switzerland, Turkey, or an Arab state for the meeting, emphasizing that pivotal decisions can only be made through direct dialogue between the two leaders. He urged for a specific date to be established for these talks.

As part of his offer, Zelenskyy indicated Ukraine’s willingness to enforce a complete ceasefire during negotiations. Additionally, he proposed an “all-for-all” prisoner exchange to foster trust, and called for the repatriation of Ukrainian civilians and children displaced by the conflict from affected areas. This proposal comes amidst ongoing military engagements, with Russia increasing aerial assaults on Ukrainian targets and Ukraine conducting long-range drone strikes into Russian territory.

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed support for the potential meeting, acknowledging that successful negotiations would necessitate concessions from both sides to reach a peaceful resolution. The Kremlin has acknowledged receipt of Zelenskyy’s message, although Russian officials stated that they have yet to thoroughly examine the proposal.
