Talks between Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) party, and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki concluded without resolving the ongoing discord within the party. The meeting underscored persistent divisions among Poland’s primary opposition group, which remain unaddressed despite efforts to find common ground.
In the aftermath of the discussions, PiS Member of the European Parliament Piotr Müller revealed that his faction had put forward 21 compromise proposals. These proposals aim to bridge the internal rift and rebuild unity within the party. According to Müller, these suggestions demonstrate a commitment to goodwill, loyalty, and strengthening the centre-right political alliance.
Müller also defended the formation of the Rozwój Plus association, emphasizing its role in broadening support for the centre-right and attracting new voters. He addressed concerns regarding the organization’s financing by noting that legal assessments have been made to ensure compliance.
While Müller expressed a desire to reach a consensus, he firmly dismissed the notion of signing loyalty pledges or declarations that he deemed humiliating. He stressed the importance of PiS maintaining its identity as a broad political movement focused on policy and electoral success rather than being bogged down by internal disputes.
