President Donald Trump branded Iran’s publicly stated peace stance as “completely false” on Thursday, using his Truth Social account to accuse the country of lying about its true position in ceasefire negotiations. Trump claimed Iranian negotiators were privately begging for a deal even as their government maintained a narrative of calm and deliberate consideration. He warned that the false narrative was leading Iran toward a situation from which there would be no escape.
The US has proposed a 15-point ceasefire plan that offers Iran meaningful concessions including relief from economic sanctions, a nuclear rollback, missile restrictions, and the restoration of open navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a critical global oil corridor, with approximately one-fifth of the world’s petroleum supply moving through it. Iran’s rejection of the plan has stalled the peace process despite Trump’s repeated public expressions of optimism.
Tehran has used state television to outline its own ceasefire conditions, which include an end to targeted strikes on its senior officials, formal security guarantees, reparations for wartime destruction, and internationally recognized authority over the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict has produced a devastating human toll across the region.
