Zelenskyy Pushes for Peace Talks with Putin to End Ukraine Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed support for renewed peace talks involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, emphasizing the importance of these discussions in setting the stage for a potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The goal of the talks would be to end the ongoing conflict and advance peace efforts in the region.

This announcement comes in the wake of meetings between US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin in St. Petersburg, following Witkoff’s earlier discussions with Zelenskyy in Norway. Russian officials have indicated a willingness to resume negotiations between the three countries in November, with Abu Dhabi suggested as a possible location.

Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine is eager to initiate these talks as soon as possible, with a focus on achieving a ceasefire, an energy truce, and humanitarian measures, such as the return of prisoners. Kyiv hopes the talks can begin in early November, although Russia has proposed a start date of November 10 or later.

Additionally, Zelenskyy mentioned the possibility of agreeing to freeze fighting along the current front lines, contingent upon receiving security guarantees from the United States and Europe. However, the negotiations face challenges due to disagreements regarding territorial demands and Russia’s security concerns.

US special envoy Witkoff described his diplomatic discussions as constructive and reiterated US President Donald Trump’s commitment to pursuing a lasting peace agreement. Despite these diplomatic efforts, uncertainty persists over whether the parties can overcome their differences and facilitate a direct meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin.
